TATTOO AFTERCARE

  • Leave bandage on until you can properly clean your tattoo. Recommended No longer than 8hrs.

  • Wash hands with non-scented soap and water before removing bandage.

  • Remove bandage and discard, gently clean the area of your tattoo with soap and water. Rinse soap off with clean running water, Pat drying it afterwards with a paper towel. Recommend not to use cloth material because of the potential of lint getting caught on your skin after drying it.

  • DO NOT submerge your tattoo in pools, hot tubs, lakes, beach, or baths. Tattoo must be fully healed to prevent damage before submersion into any water. Running water is ok for brief amounts of time.

  • Depending on your immune system, tattoos can take 2-5 week to heal. After this period is ok to use un-scented lotion.

  • Usually in 1-3days after getting your tattoo it will start to feel dry, you can apply unscented lotion or as recommended by your tattoo artist.

  • Repeat washing 2-3 times per day or as needed. Lotion should be applied 4-6 times per day when your skin feels tight/dry, resembling a scab. Remember to moisturize the tattoo but not drown it with lotion, as the area need to breath.

  • Flaking and scabbing is normal after the 4th day, do not pick at them (this could cause loss of pigment or scarring) let flaking and scabbing fall off naturally. Each tattoo varies with scabbing and flaking on skin type and location on the body.

  • Light redness and swelling are normal with tattoos.

  • Itching will occur, NO scratching.

  • A tattoo is an open wound, if an infection or adverse reaction occurs at the location of the tattoo, contact your tattoo artist or follow up with a physician for treatment and report to the southern Nevada Health District special programs at 702-759-0677  or bodyart@snhd.org
